LATE BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS THE NEED FOR A PEOPLE’S CONVENTION TO REFORM NEW YORK
7/22/2010

The tug of war between the governor and the New York City-dominated legislative leadership over the passage of this year’s budget clearly illustrates the dysfunction in Albany and shows the utter lack of courage in our political leaders to do what is necessary in these tough economic times.

Unfortunately, this political wrangling is nothing new and is part of a broken system that, time and again, ignores the needs of hardworking New Yorkers.  Worse, it is a system that allows for the personal egos of a choice few to affect the well-being of millions.

Now is the time to change the dysfunctional process, for New Yorkers can no longer afford the same old broken promises.

To help end the dysfunction in Albany, I am hosting, along with Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb, a town hall meeting to discuss the People’s Convention to Reform New York legislation.  The People’s Convention will be a forum to enact real change in Albany and give New Yorkers more of a say in how their state government is run.

The town hall meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 27, beginning at 6:00 pm at Elmira College’s Hamilton Hall located on the corner of College Avenue and Washington Avenue.  For more information about the town hall meeting, contact my office at (607) 732-3500.  I hope to see many of you at the event.

Sincerely,

Tom O’Mara

Member of the Assembly
