Assemblyman Tom O’Mara (R,I,C-Big Flats) is pleased to announce that beginning today, New Yorkers can sign up for and receive e-mail alerts, text messages or faxes notifying them when a Level 2 or 3 sex offender moves into their neighborhood or other selected geographic area.  Assemblyman O’Mara helped to pass legislation last year allowing for the creation of the alerts. 

Assemblyman O’Mara noted that those interested in signing up for the alerts may do so by going to www.criminaljustice.state.ny.us.  E-mail updates will be provided free of charge and are triggered when addresses for Level 2 and 3 sex offenders listed on the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) web site are changed on the state’s Sex Offender Registry.  Address changes are processed within 24 hours of receipt, Monday through Friday, during regular business hours.

“The e-mail alerts provide timely information regarding the whereabouts of dangerous sex offenders and is an important tool for parents,” said O’Mara. “I am pleased that I could do my part in helping to create this new public safety initiative.”
