Assemblyman O’Mara Announces over $3.5 million in Restore NY Grants

Funding Will Help Restore Area Landmarks and Promote Economic Development

Assemblyman Tom O’Mara (R,I,C-Big Flats) is pleased to announce over $3.5 million in Restore NY grants for the refurbishment of several area landmarks to revitalize the region’s main street areas to promote economic growth and lure new businesses to the region.

“I am pleased to announce that the state has awarded four Restore NY grants totaling over $3.5 million to help revitalize several of the area’s landmarks,” said O’Mara.  “These projects represent the state and local governments’ continued efforts to make the Southern Tier a more attractive place to own and operate a business.”

The Restore NY program is intended to develop local economies and neighborhoods by awarding grant money to municipalities for the revitalization of commercial and residential properties. The four Restore NY grants are:

·        $1,250,000 for restoring the old post office in downtown Elmira,

  • $380,576 for the South Avenue redevelopment project in Horseheads,
  • $766,500 for the rehab of the former Rural Urban Center in Montour Falls, and
  • $1,190,000 for the Magee Point Landing in Watkins.

“By investing in our local communities today we can set the foundation for a vibrant economy in the future,” concluded O’Mara.
