O’Mara Won’t Support Outrageous Spending Plan
Lawmaker To Vote against State Budget
Assemblyman Tom O’Mara (R,I,C-Big Flats) today voted against this year’s state budget because it increases state spending by $10.5 billion, a ten percent increase, and creates $7 billion in higher taxes and fees.
“From increasing fees on hunting and fishing licenses to eliminating the property tax rebate check, this year’s budget is an extremely irresponsible spending plan which was crafted in secrecy by the Governor and Legislative Leaders, all of whom are Democrats from New York City.
In these tough times, state government should be working to provide New York state families and businesses relief from high taxes and fees. Instead, Democrat Legislative Leaders seem intent on preserving Albany’s tax-and-spend culture at the expense of taxpayers and the state’s future financial stability. Even economic development programs have been cut.
With residents and businesses fleeing New York in search of better opportunities and with the state facing tough economic times, state leaders should have crafted a budget that reduces spending and seeks to promote a more business-friendly and family-affordable environment.
Instead, New Yorkers are getting more of the same, higher taxes, uncontrolled spending and more debt. For these reasons I could not, in good conscience, vote for this year’s state budget.”
