O’Mara: Bill Will Make State’s Roads and Highways Safer

This week, Assemblyman Tom O’Mara (R,I,C-Big Flats) helped to pass Assembly bill (A.8568-B), which prohibits ‘texting’ while driving and imposes additional restrictions on junior licenses.  Assemblyman O’Mara noted that the legislation will help make New York’s streets and highways safer by reducing distractions for drivers, especially younger drivers.

“This legislation will put added safeguards in place, helping to ensure the well-being of our youngest and most inexperienced drivers. This, in turn, will make the state’s roads and highways safer for all New Yorkers,” said O’Mara.  “Young drivers need to be focused on the road, not their cell phones.  By prohibiting texting while driving, we can hopefully cut down on unnecessary distractions and accidents.”

“In today’s world, cell phones seem to be with us everywhere we go.  Unfortunately, too many people use these devises while driving, which endangers everyone’s safety.  I’m confident that this bill will cause a reduction of this dangerous practice and make our streets and highways safer,” concluded O’Mara.
