Join Assemblyman Tom O’Mara’s Fight To Cap The State Sales Tax On Gasoline. New York motorists are paying 65 cents per gallon in taxes - the highest rate in the Northeast. There are seven taxes on each gallon. The sales tax is the only tax that is pegged to the price of gas, meaning that as motorists struggle to pay higher fuel prices, the state is reaping a windfall. That money should go back to taxpayers. Capping the sales tax at $2.00 would save motorists four percent on the cost of gas in excess of $2 per gallon. |
